Thanks to Patrick Thibodeau, who wrote the following article for ComputerWorld -- a good overview for those unfamiliar with corporate alumni networks and why you might want to participate! And also a tip of the hat to John Verocchi, who runs the Sun Alumni Association, and referred Patrick our way. Patrick was contemplating how many layoffs may be associated with Oracle's acquisition of Sun in 2009, and looking for past experience from the Oracle/PeopleSoft acquisition to compare. We also turned Patrick on to the Microsoft Alumni Network, and here's the result.
As Patrick mentioned, not a lot has been written about Corporate Alumni Networks. We continue to be a best-kept secret for how to connect and find jobs, develop business, form new startups, and gain another perspective on what's really happening in your industry.
If you're a former PeopleSoft employee, we encourage you to join. And if not, try Googling your past employer name, plus "Alumni" and see what you get! You might be surprised.
