Move over, DirecTV and Comcast. My Tivo's going to be pulling content straight from my broadband connection. OK, so that's still Comcast, good point. But not through the ol' cable channels.
Seems like a cool and logical technology vision, but it might be too early for Tivo to be breaking away from the distribution alliances with DirecTV and others that it needs to gain adoption and provide a more seamless experience to their end customers (e.g., the way Pay-Per-View movie names don't show up in the Tivo listings).
I love my Tivo but a lot of the rest of the world doesn't seem to "get it" yet. If all the cable and satellite service providers opt to deliver their own proprietary DVR solutions (which would squash market adoption and kill the technology, but maybe that's what they want), it will be interesting to see how this one evolves. I'd bet on Tivo just because there are so many ways to get into the house, someone's got to want to work with them and they have the end customer on their side....
